The Reggaskas

A female fronted band playing original songs with an unique but cheeky Ska/Reggae vibe.

A seven piece reggae/ska band, with a strong rhythm section of drums, bass, guitar and keys accompanied by a lively brass section of saxophone, trumpet. Performing original, unique songs, with an energetic reggae/ska vibe which guarantee to entertain the crowd.

Originally from Devon, The Reggaskas were founded in 2013 by brothers Mike and Steve Bourne over a couple of pints of Guinness. Lead singer Lizy Eames, a talented young singer who was coming home to the South-West having completed her music degree. They grew from strength-to-strength as more members were recruited until the full seven piece line-up was in place, made up of some of the finest musicians in Devon.

As the main influences behind The Reggaska’s unique sound, and our namesake, we create reggae and ska tracks in collaboration with our friends and band-mates who share our passion for the music and the creative spark to make something unique.

The bands line-up consists of seven of Devon’s finest musical minds: Lizy Eames; our singer and front-girl, Mike Bourne on Saxophone and Melodica, Steve ‘Fester’ Bourne on trumpet, Chris Reeves; our lead guitarist, Luke Spencer Stone on keyboard, Dave Nicholson on Bass, and Harry Colridge on the drums.

The first single, 2014’s ‘Who’s the Daddy’ was a roaring success. We produced an uplifting reggae/ska vibe which really put a smile on your face and a spring in your dance step. Written by our own Mike Bourne, the song was dedicated to his father and helped to make Bourne Senior’s lifelong dream of making people smile through music into a reality. The Reggaskas were proud that ‘Who’s the Daddy’ was used by the charity Balls to Cancer to help raise awareness of testicular cancer and those affected by it.

The debut album ‘Long Way Home Album’ will be released in June 2016. Which has had an amazing response and great feedback. Recorded at the Music Mill and produced by Richard Digby Smith and Michael Bourne. With a CV that reads like a who’s who of music, Digby has worked with everyone from the London Symphony Orchestra through to Bob Marley, Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney, and has added his passion to The Reggaskas unique feel. With thirteen original songs, we feel ‘Long Way Home’ delivers where it matters most and touches on life, love and sadness with that unique element of Reggaskas fun. Their album is available now to buy direct from their website or for all major online stores.

The band also has also been working with the Specialized Project, a fantastic organisation that promotes music to raise funds and awareness of the Teenage Cancer Trust and the National Foundation for Youth Music. As part of their ‘Specialized 4’ album, we recorded the Bob Marley classic ‘Redemption Song’ and the ‘One Heart’ album with another Bob Marley classic; ‘No Woman, No Cry’.

After spending much performing at festivals, they have developed quite a following. During a set at Lemonfest, They were introduced live on BBC Radio Devon as their undiscovered new band and have been feature on the BBC radio many times.

The Reggaskas are making some big waves on the South Devon coast and definitely a band to see.
